Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) admitted that when he first joined
acting, he had treated it like a hobby. After being in the entertainment
industry for 13 years, he now sees it as a career. Aside from appearing
in Hong Kong and mainland dramas, Bosco has branched out into the film
and music industries, becoming a well-rounded artist with diverse
tracks. But Bosco’s ambitions do not stop there, as he is also an
entrepreneur and hopes to become a director one day.
Bosco made his first television appearance in a lemon tea commercial with Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) in 1998. The following year, he successfully auditioned at TVB. Three years later, he gained notice after filming for Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄> despite portraying only a secondary role. Together with Ron Ng (吳卓羲), Sammul Chan (陳鍵鋒) and Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Bosco was promoted as TVB’s S4, the future generation of TVB siu sangs. After 2005′s War of In-Laws <我的野蠻奶奶>, Bosco made a popular onscreen and real-life couple with Myolie Wu (胡杏兒).
Good Morale Despite All
Bosco has also enjoyed a rather fruitful career in China. For that,
he is grateful to TVB for granting him the opportunities. Besides
acquiring knowledge about the different filming techniques, Bosco also
discovered his love for directing while working in China. He sees it as a
career alternative to acting.
Recently, TVB has been suffering poor ratings, generating poor
feedback for its dramas. Seasoned producers, scriptwriters, and actors
left for China’s better opportunities, resulting in TVB having to resort
to employ artists from other stations. Bosco said, “This world is so
big. There are so many television companies and equally as many actors.
Who signed whom is not a big problem. The most important thing is
everyone maintains a good relationship so that there can be future
collaborations.”
Besides China, Bosco also feels that the upcoming issuing of
free-to-air TV licenses to rival local stations will not affect the
morale of the company. He supports competition as improving quality.
Not Mindful of Others’ Opinions
In currently aired drama, A Change of Heart <
好心作怪>, Bosco portrays a pair of twins. While the elder brother is a
doctor, the younger one is a bartender. Because the twin brothers are
rather similar in character, Bosco had to spend much effort in playing
the two roles well so that the viewers are able to differentiate them.
Although both brothers are humorous, the elder brother is more serious
while the younger one is more indecisive and always up to mischief.
Bosco felt that in real life, he is more like the younger brother. Bosco
said, “[He] doesn’t like to explain himself, often causing others to
misunderstand him. This is me, I don’t care how others see me.”
Love Is Not Priority
In A Change of Heart, the two brothers at two separate times, fell in love with Niki Chow
(周麗淇). Though the pair shared several passionate kissing scenes, Bosco
felt that Niki is too tomboyish and would never fall for her in real
life. However, that did not stop the rumors from spreading that both
were an item.
Bosco said, “It’s part of an actor’s job to play passionate scenes.
In overseas films, people don’t find it strange to see lustful and bed
scenes. Maybe it’s China’s culture! How can there be so many hook-ups?
Thank you everyone for thinking so well of me. But neither do I have the
effort nor ability.”
Bosco stressed that at the moment, he will let love take its natural
course and just focus on his career. “Right now I do not want to think
of dating. People at different stages will have different thoughts. I
think of my business and work more than love.”
